Biography[]

George Phillips was a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy who was known to run a tight ship, captaining a Navy PBR during the Vietnam War. He treated Tyrone Miller as a son of his, and he was known to clash with authority with Captain Benjamin L. Willard when he was sent to escort Miller up the Nung River for a secret mission in 1969. Phillips was known to smoke marijuana with his crew, and he purchased Panama Red from a market in a US-held town on the river. While heading down the river one day, Phillips was impaled with a spear, and he angrily tried to pull Willard down towards the ground so that his neck would be impaled by the end of the spear. However, Willard held Phillips' face down, and Phillips died without being able to kill Willard.
