George Payne McLean (7 October 1857 – 6 June 1932) was Governor of Connecticut (R) from 9 January 1901 to 7 January 1903, succeeding George E. Lounsbury and preceding Abiram Chamberlain, and a member of the US Senate from 4 March 1911 to 3 March 1929, succeeding Morgan G. Bulkeley and preceding Frederic C. Walcott.
Biography[]
George Payne McLean was born in Simsbury, Connecticut in 1857, and he worked as a lawyer before serving in the State House of Representatives from 1883 to 1884. He then served as clerk of the State Board of Pardons from 1884 to 1901 and a member of the State Senate in 1886 and from 1889 to 1891. From 1892 to 1896, he served as US Attorney for Connecticut, and he served as Governor from 1901 to 1903 and as a member of the US Senate from 1911 to 1929. He retired in 1929 and returned to his law practice, and he died in 1932.
