
George Monroe Beebe (28 October 1836-1 March 1927) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NY 14) from 4 March 1875 to 3 March 1879, succeeding David M. De Witt and preceding John W. Ferdon.
Biography[]
George Monroe Beebe was born in New Vernon, New York in 1836, the son of a Baptist minister, and he became a lawyer in Monticello in 1857. He moved to Peoria, Illinois that same year and edited the Central Illinois Democrat before moving to Troy, Kansas in 1858 and serving on the territorial council from 1858 to 1859. He went on to move to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1861 and to Virginia City, Nevada in 1863, and, after failing in his 1865 bid for the state supreme court, he returned to New York. He served in the State Assembly from 1873 to 1874, in the US House of Representatives from 1875 to 1879, as a delegate to the 1876, 1880, and 1892 Democratic National Conventions, and on the state court of claims from 1883 to 1900. He died in 1927.
