George Jones senator

George Jones (25 February 1766 – 13 November 1838) was a US Senator from Georgia from 27 August to 7 November 1807, succeeding Abraham Baldwin and preceding William H. Crawford. He was a Democratic-Republican.

Biography[]

George Jones was born in Savannah, Georgia in 1766, and he participated in the American Revolutionary War; he was captured by the British and held on a prison ship from 1780 to 1781. He later joined the Georgia House of Representatives and the Georgia Senate, and, in 1807, he was appointed to continue Abraham Baldwin's unexpired US Senate term until William H. Crawford was elected as Baldwin's successor. Jones died in 1838.
