George Gilbert Hoskins

George Gilbert Hoskins (24 December 1824-12 June 1893) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NY 30) from 4 March 1873 to 3 March 1875 (succeeding William Williams and preceding John M. Davy) and from NY-31 from 4 March 1875 to 3 March 1877 (succeeding Lyman K. Bass and preceding Charles B. Benedict) and Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1 January 1880 to 31 December 1882 (succeeding William Dorsheimer and preceding David B. Hill).

Biography[]

George Gilbert Hoskins was born in Bennington, Wyoming County, New York on 24 December 1824, and he engaged in mercantile pursuits before serving as town clerk of Bennington, as a justice of the peace, in the State Assembly in 1860 and from 1865 to 1866, as an internal revenue collector, in the US House of Representatives from 1873 to 1877, and Lieutenant Governor from 1880 to 1882. He died in 1893.
