George Edward Foreman (10 January 1949-21 March 2025) was an American professional boxer, entrepreneur, minister, and author. Born in Marshall, Texas and raised in Houston, he dropped out of school at age 15 and became a mugger before signing up for the Job Corps and moving to Pleasanton, California. He became a boxer while training as a carpenter and bricklayer, and he won a gold medal at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games. He turned professional the next year, knocking out the then-undefeated world heavyweight champion Joe Frazier in 1973. He defended the belt twice before losing to Muhammad Ali in the "Rumbe in the Jungle" in 1974. He retired in 1977 after a loss to Jimmy Young, and he became a born-again Christian and an ordained minister. However, he later enjoyed a boxing comeback and won the unified WBA, IBF, and lineal heavyweight championship titles in 1994 at the age of 45. He retired again in 1997 at the age of 48, having become the oldest world heavyweight champion in history. Foreman also made more than $200 million from promoting the George Foreman Grill.
Foreman endorsed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in 2016, describing Trump as a personal friend and a friend of boxing.
