
George F. Shafer (23 November 1888-13 August 1948) was the Republican Governor of North Dakota from 9 January 1929 to 31 December 1932, succeeding Walter Maddock and preceding William Langer.
Biography[]
George F. Shafer was born in Mandan, North Dakota in 1888, and he served as State's Attorney for Mckenzie County from 1915 to 1919, as Assistant Attorney General from 1919 to 1923, as State Attorney General from 1923 to 1928, and as the state's conservative Republican governor from 1929 to 1932. Shafer dealt with drought and low prices for agricultural products, and he retired in 1932 and died in 1948.
