George C

George Campbell Scott (18 October 1927-22 September 1999) was an American film actor, director, and producer. Born in the Appalachian town of Wise, Virginia in 1927, he was raised in Detroit, Michigan, and he served in the US Marine Corps from 1945 to 1949, reaching the rank of Sergeant. He became a stage actor during the 1950s and a film actor during the 1960s, turning down an Academy Award in 1970 on philosophical grounds. In 1982, Scott appeared in a campaign commercial for the Connecticut Republican political candidate Lowell P. Weicker, and he identified as a moderate and pro-death penalty conservative. He died in 1999 at the age of 71.
