George Bowden was a Missouri Unionist who lived in Lexington, Lafayette County at the time of the American Civil War. At the start of the war, he assured Horton Lee Sr. that, while he was a Unionist, he would not take up arms against his fellow Southerners. However, his son Alf Bowden went on to serve with the Redlegs and fight against his former neighbors.
