
George Booth (died 1700) was an English pirate who was active in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean from 1696 to 1700.
Biography[]
George Booth served as a gunner aboard the Pelican under Robert Colley in 1696, also serving under Samuel Inless aboard the Dolphin. He escaped from British captivity after burning the Dolphin, and Booth and a few other pirates captured a French merchant ships thanks to a ruse. Booth became the captain and sailed to Madagascar, where he joined forces with John Bowen. In April 1699, they captured the 50-gun British slave ship Speaker off Majunga, Madagascar, and they arrived at Zanzibar in 1700. While going ashore for provisions, the pirates were ambushed by Arab troops, and Booth was killed in the fighting. Bowen replaced Booth as captain of the small pirate fleet.
