
Georg von Bismarck (15 February 1891 – 31 August 1942) was a Generalleutnant of Nazi Germany's Wehrmacht during World War II. He commanded the 21st Panzer Division until his death from a landmine at the Battle of Alam el-Halfa.
Biography[]
Georg von Bismarck was born in Neumuehl, Brandenburg, German Empire on 15 February 1891, and he joined the Imperial German Army in 1910 and served in World War I. He served as an officer in the Reichswehr during the Interwar period, and he took part in the 1939 invasion of Poland as an officer in the Wehrmacht. During the Battle of France in 1940, Von Bismarck commanded a motorized infantry regiment of Erwin Rommel's 7th Panzer Division, and he was given command of the 20th Panzer Division in 1941 during Operation Barbarossa. In January 1942, he was transferred to North Africa to command the 21st Panzer Division, and he was killed by a landmine at the Battle of Alam el-Halfa on 31 August 1942.
