Geoffrey Smythe (born in 1861) was a British diplomat and secretary of Sir Claude Maxwell MacDonald.
Biography[]
Geoffrey Smythe was born in Leeds, England in 1861. In 1891, he was sent to China to work as secretary of Sir Claude Maxwell MacDonald at the British embassy of Peking. He was present when the foreign ministers took the decition to stay and fight the boxers. He managed to survive the Siege of Peking.
