Geoffrey I of Lusignan

Geoffrey I of Lusignan (1150-1224) was a French-Jerusalemite nobleman who was Lord of Vouvant, Mervent, Moncontour, and Soubise and the Count of Jaffa and Ascalon.

Biography[]

Geoffrey was born in 1150, the son of Hugh VIII of Lusignan and the brother of Guy, Raynald, and Humphrey. He inherited some of his father's titles in Poitou,, including the lordships of Vouvant, Mervent, Moncontour, and Soubise, and his brother Guy made him the Count of Jaffa and Ascalon in the Kingdom of Jerusalem. He fathered Geoffrey II of Lusignan and Guillaume II of Lusignan, and he died in 1224.
