Gentile Valier

Gentile Valier (1144-) was an Italian captain from the Republic of Pisa who ferried Latin Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem during the late 12th century. He first went to sea from Pisa in 1167, and he shipped several Western European adventurers to the Levant over the next few decades. In January 1187, he ferried the French knight Geoffroy de Lyon to Acre.
