Genovese crime family

The Genovese crime family is an Italian-American organized crime syndicate affiliated with the American Mafia. The family was founded in 1931 by Lucky Luciano, and it quickly became the most powerful Mafia family, rivaling the Gambino crime family for power. The Genovese family was renamed after Don Vito Genovese in 1957, and the family engaged in gambling, loansharking, real estate, prostitution, fraud, bribery, and labor union corruption for cedaes. The family survived into the 21st century due to its members following the omerta code of honor; only six Genovese members have testified against the family during its history.
