Gennosuke Kawada (1942-11 December 1988) was a Japanese loan shark and the President of Toko Credit in Kabukicho, Tokyo during the 1980s. He was associated with the Dojima-gumi family of the Tojo-kai family, and, on 9 December 1988, he sent Kazuma Kiryu to collect a debt from Taichi Kurihara at an empty lot in Kabukicho on the orders of Daisaku Kuze. Kuze secretly had Kurihara murdered after Kiryu left from the collection, framing his murder on Kiryu. After meeting with the lieutenants of the Dojima-gumi and deducing that he had been set up, Kiryu decided to investigate the situation himself. He was led to Kawada's office on Taihei Boulevard East by Shigeki Hoashi after defeating Hoashi's friend Bruno Tobe in a street fight, and Kiryu fought through the Toko Credit guards before confronting Kawada in his office. Kawada initially pointed a gun at Kiryu, but he was intimidated into dropping it and answering Kiryu's questions. Before he could give the name of the man who arranged the set-up, Kuze himself entered the room and confronted Kiryu, and he had a frightened Kawada leave the room as he attempted to recruit Kiryu to his side. Kawada was later killed by Kuze's men at his office to tie up loose ends.
