The General National Congress (GNC) was the legislative authority of Libya from 8 August 2012 to 4 August 2014, with the Libya Dawn coalition establishing a new GNC in Tripoli on 25 August 2014 and running it until 5 April 2016. The original GNC replaced the National Transitional Council in the aftermath of the Libyan Civil War, and the GNC's goal was the creation of a new House of Representatives. In August 2014, the Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room and Libya Shield Force formed a new General National Congress in Tripoli, opposing the Tobruk-based House of Representatives government. In April 2016, the GNC was replaced by the State Council.
