Genco Abbandando (1892-26 August 1945) was the first consigliere of the Corleone crime family.
Biography[]
Genco Abbandando was raised in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, the son of a Sicilian immigrant and grocery store owner. He became firm friends with store employee Vito Corleone, and he was upset when Don Massimo Fanucci forced his father to fire Vito from his job. Genco even offered to steal from his own father to help his jobless friend, but Vito told him not to, as this would be an offense to his father. When Vito became the don of the neighborhood, he hired Abbandando to act as his consigliere, and named his front company "Genco Pura" after his friend. Genco served him loyally, showing incredible insight. Genco had Sonny Corleone assigned as one of his father's bodyguards to keep him under his father's control, as well as to give him experience with leading the family. Abbandando moved into the Corleone family's compound with his family, and he died there from cancer in August 1945.
