Ge Yunfei (1789-September 1841) was a Chinese general of the Qing dynasty during the First Opium War.
Biography[]
Ge Yunfei was born in a military family in Shanyin County, Zhejiang in 1789, and he learned kung-fu from his father. In 1819, he passed the imperial examination to become a military juren, and he became a jinshi in 1823. He served for several years as an assistant brigade commander in the navy based in Huangyan, and he became the commander of the Zhenhai garrison in Zhejiang. During the First Opium War, he defended Xiaofeng Mountain from the British, and he was wounded 40 times before dying from a mortal chest wound. The Daoguang Emperor wept after learning of Ge's death and gave his family a higher pension.
