Gaul

Gaul was the geographical area that encompassed present-day France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Belgium, Monaco, and the Rhineland region of Germany. The area was considered the heart of the Gauls, a loose confederation of several barbarian tribes that inhabited much of Western Europe. The Gauls included the various tribes of Gaul in addition to some additional tribes in northern Italy, such as the Umbrians and Senones, and the Gallic confederacy once stretched from northern Spain to northern Italy.
