Gascony is a historic region of southwestern France to the east and south of Bordeaux, overlapping with the region of Guyenne/Aquitaine. The region was historically inhabited by the Basques, with the name coming from the same root as "Basque", "Vasco". Since then, it has been inhabited by Occitans, and it is known for its foie gras cuisine, medieval villages, its scenic view of the Pyrenees, and Armagnac wine.
