Gary Peters

Gary Charles Peters (born 1 December 1958) was a member of the US Senate from Michigan (D) from 3 January 2015, succeeding Carl Levin; he previously served in the US House of Representatives from Michigan's 14th district from 3 January 2013 to 3 January 2015 (succeeding John Conyers and preceding Brenda Lawrence) and from the 9th district from 3 January 2009 to 3 January 2013 (succeeding Joe Knollenberg and preceding Sander Levin).

Biography[]

Gary Charles Peters was born in Pontiac, Michigan on 1 December 1958, and he graduated from the University of Detroit in 1984. Peters served in the US Navy from 1993 to 2000 and from 2001 to 2005, serving as a Lieutenant Commander. He also worked as an investment adviser and as an academic, and he served in the State Senate before being elected to the US House of Representatives in 2013. He served for two years before being elected to the US Senate, replacing the retiring Senator Carl Levin. Peters was a gun owner, and he gave limited support to gun legislation.
