The Garden State Parkway (GSP) is a 172.4-mile limited-access toll parkway that stretches the length of New Jersey from the New York line at Montvale to Cape May at the state's southernmost tip. The parkway was built from 1946 to 1957 to connect suburban northern New Jersey with resort areas along the Atlantic coast, and it has a "metropolitan section" north of the Raritan River and a "shore section" between the Raritan River and Cape May. The parkway is the longest in the state, as well as the busiest toll highway in the United States.
