Gambera

Gambera was an imperial Ethiopian city located in the present-day Somali Region of Ethiopia, near the modern town of Gadaueina. Gambera was founded by Beselot Adugna Wagaye in 1530, and it grew into a sizable town with several Oriental Orthodox monasteries, houses, farms, military buildings, and a port located at Bulo Har (in present-day Somalia) on the Red Sea. During the Ethiopian-Adal War, Ottoman raids on the town led to Beselot ordering the construction of wooden defensive walls to protect Gambera, and the town provided Beselot with an army which he used to destroy the Turkish base in Somalia in the 1533 Battle of Sabun.
