Gallia Narbonensis was a province of the Roman Empire located in what is now Languedoc and Provence in southern France. Established in 121 BC, it was the first Roman province north of the Alps, and Narbo Martius (Narbonne) served as its capital. In 462, the Visigoths conquered Gallia Narbonensis, and they conquered the surrounding area in 477, dividing it into Provence (to the east of the lower Rhone) and Septimania.
