Galeotto Sclafenatus was a Lieutenant of the Papal Army. In 1492, after Juan Borgia the Younger was appointed Captain-General of the Papal States, Borgia accused Sclafenatus of personifying the inadequacy of the Papal troops, as his troops performed poorly at drills. He then threatened to kill him after he interrupted Pope Alexander VI during his criticism of the lieutenant, and he told him that he had to improve or die. In March 1493, he told Juan that his lieutenants had deserted him due to his feckless leadership, including the disastrous Siege of Bracciano.
