
Gaius Calvisius Sabinus (65 BC-) was a Consul of the Roman Republic in 39 BC.
Biography[]
Gaius Calvisius Sabinus was born in Spoletium, Roman Republic in 65 BC, and he served as an officer under Julius Caesar during the civil wars of the 40s BC. He was charged with capturing Aetolia in Greece, which he did with the support of the local people. He became Governor of Africa Proconsularis in 45 BC and then Praetor in 44 BC; he served as Consul in 39 BC. In 38 BC, he led a fleet from Etruria to assist Octavian in suppressing Sextus Pompeius' revolt on Sicily, and he defeated Menas' fleet off Cumae. From 36 to 35 BC, he was made Proconsul of Italia, temporarily restoring public order. In 31 BC, he became Proconsul in Hispania, and he returned to Rome in 28 BC, celebrating a triumph that May.
