Fulk IV "the Quarreler" of Anjou (1043-14 April 1109) was the ruler of the County of Anjou from 1068 until his death in 1109.
Biography[]
The younger son of Geoffrey II of Gatinais and Ermengarde of Anjou, Fulk succeeded Count Geoffrey II of Anjou (he was related to the House of Anjou through his mother). He fought his brother Geoffrey, who was deemed incompetent, and captured him in 1067; under pressure from the Church, he let him go, only to renew fighting. In 1068 he finally emerged the victor.
Fulk's rule was filled with losses of lands; he lost Saintonge and Gatinais to the Kingdom of France, and he fought over the County of Maine with King William the Conqueror of England and the Duchy of Normandy. He was succeeded by Fulk V of Anjou on his death.
