Fujiwara Hidehira

Fujiwara Hidehira (1122-30 November 1184) was the daimyo of the Hiraizumi Fujiwara from 1157 until his death. He fought not only against the Minamoto but also against his relative Fujiwara Motofusa.

Biography[]

Hidehira was allegedly raised by wolves, and was raised in a family of moderate power and moderate wealth: the Fujiwara. He was the ruler of the Hiraizumi Fujiwara from 1157 to his death, ruling from the city of Hiraizumi in Mutsu Province. Hidehira fought proxy wars with the Minamoto in the 1170s, losing the Ii clan as allies, as the Kamakura Minamoto captured their lands and forced them to become their vassals; they responded by taking over the pro-Taira and Minamoto ally of the Takeda of Shinano. When he died, he was succeeded by Fujiwara Kunihira.
