Friesland is a province in the northwestern Netherlands (south of the North Sea), with its capital at Leeuwarden. Friesland is a part of the greater Frisia region, and 55% of its population of 646,305 people (2010) speak Frisian instead of Dutch. During the 2010s, Friesland was governed by a coalition of the Christian Democratic Appeal, the Dutch Labor Party, and the Frisian National Party.
