
Friedrich von Gerok (26 May 1854-18 September 1937) was an Imperial German Army General der Infanterie during World War I.
Biography[]
Karl Christof Friedrich von Gerok was born in Wurttemberg in 1854, and he joined the Imperial German Army in 1872. He rose to the rank of Colonel in 1904, Major-General in 1908, and Lieutenant-General in 1911. During World War I, Gerok was given command of the XXIV Reserve Corps after commanding a Wurttemberger reserve division, fighting in the German invasion of Belgium and the First Battle of Ypres on the Western Front before being redeployed to the Eastern Front. His corps fought at the Battle of Lodz and the Battle of Limanowa before returning west to fight in the Battle of Verdun, only to again be redeployed east to command an army group in the Carpathians. He was transferred west for a final time to fight in Champagne and at Reims until February 1918, when he was relieved and appointed Governor of Ulm. He was dismissed in June 1918 and died in Stuttgart in 1937.
