Friedrich Hildebrandt (19 September 1898-5 November 1948) was a German NSDAP politician who served as Gauleiter of Mecklenburg-Lubeck from 25 March 1925 to 1 April 1937 and of Gau Mecklenburg from 1 April 1937 to 8 May 1945.
Biography[]
Friedrich Hildebrandt was born in Parchim, Mecklenburg, German Empire in 1898. He served in the Imperial German Army during World War I, and he was severely gassed in Flanders in 1917 and wounded twice before the war's end. He went on to serve in the Freikorps in the Baltics after hte war, and he served as a policeman until he was dismissed for his excessive brutality towards captured Spartacists. He joined the NSDAP in 1925 while working as a farm worker and gardener, and he served as a gauleiter from 1925 to 1945. He served as an SS-Obergruppenfuhrer during World War II, and he was hanged by the Allies in 1948 for ordering the shooting of parachuting US aircrew.
