Friedrich Engels Sr. (1796-1860) was a German industrialist. Born in Jülich-Cleves-Berg, she owned large cotton-textile mills in Barmen, Prussia and Salford, England, and he and his wife Elisabeth Franziska Mauritia von Haar raised their children - including Friedrich Engels - as devout Pietist Lutherans, only for Engels Jr. to rebel against his father due to his developing of atheist and communist beliefs.
