
Friedrich Bonte (19 October 1896 – 10 April 1940) was a German Kriegsmarine Kommodore during World War II.
Biography[]
Friedrich Bonte was born in Potsdam, German Empire in 1896, and he joined the Imperial German Navy in 1914, serving in World War I. He remained in the navy during the Interwar period, and he became a Fregattenkapitan in April 1937. In April 1939, he was promoted to Kapitan zur See and given command of a destroyer force, and he was promoted to Kommodore in February 1940. In April 1940, he commanded the ten destroyers that carried Eduard Dietl's mountain troops to Narvik during the Norwegian Campaign, and his force was attacked by the British captain Bernard Warburton-Lee on 10 April 1940 in the First Battle of Narvik. Bonte was killed when his flagship, Wilhelm Heidkamp, was hit by a torpedo and exploded.
