Frida Mariano (died 17 April 1961) was the mistress of Cuban president Fidel Castro. In 1961, the Central Intelligence Agency located Mariano and Castro's double Bruno Romero in the bedroom of the Santa Maria plantation, and Romero attempted to use Mariano as a human shield. CIA agent Alex Mason shot Romero in the head, but Mariano picked up a KS-23 shotgun from the bed and attempted to shoot the CIA men. Mason proceeded to shoot her in the head, killing her.
