The Fresno Bulldogs are a Mexican-American street gang from Fresno, California that was founded in 1986. The gang developed in the prison system, when they were still Nortenos under the control of the Nuestra Familia gang during the 1984-1985 prison wars. In 1986, the gang began using the bulldog name and mascot of Fresno State University; they began to wear bulldog tattoos, bark to each other as a callsign, and refer to each other as "dog", "perro", or "efe". The gang's main revenue is from the distribution of marijuana, heroin, and methamphetamine, and the gang membership in Fresno alone was around 12,000 in 2010.
