The French Party was one of the three informal early Greek parties that dominated the early political history of Modern Greece, alongside the Russian Party and the English Party. The French Party began as a conservative political faction centered on Ioannis Kolettis, and the French Party and the English Party opposed Russian Party leader Ioannis Capodistrias' rule. The coalition demanded a written constitution, but the new Bavarian monarch Otto was selected as King of Greece in 1832, leading to the French Party being firmly established. The party was strong in central Greece and among some Peloponnesian landowners, and it would later merge into the Nationalist Party of Greece in 1875.
