French Constitution of 1791

The French Constitution of 1791 was the first written constitution of France, implemented on 3 September 1791. It established the Kingdom of the French as a constitutional monarchy with King Louis XVI of France as its ruler, and it provided for the establishment of popular sovereignty and the adoption of constitutionality. It was replaced by the French Constitution of 1793 after the overthrow of the monarchy in 1792.
