French 3rd Colonial Infantry Division

The French 3rd Colonial Infantry Division was a marine division of the French Army which was active from December 1902 to September 1946. It was attached to the French 4th Army at the start of World War I in 1914, and, in August 1914, it took part in the Battle of the Frontiers against the Imperial German Army in the Ardennes. The division of 15,000 troops lost 11,000 men in a single day of fighting, but it continued to fight on the front lines of the Western Front until the war's end; it also served in the Phony War and the Battle of France during World War II and in the First Indochina War before it was disbanded in 1946.
