Fredrick Fleming (1539-) was a Scottish nobleman and the brother of Mary Fleming, a lady-in-waiting to Mary, Queen of Scots.
Biography[]
Fredrick Fleming was born in Scotland in 1539, one of four children born to a noble family. His two older brothers died of the plague, while his younger sister Mary Fleming became a lady-in-waiting to Mary, Queen of Scots, and he became a vagrant and a gambler in Europe. In 1557, he fell into debt after cheating at a card game at The Burgundy House, and his hands were smashed after he refused to pay back the debt with interest. His sister came to Paris to help him with his debt, but it was only after Mary's friend Prince Francis of France defeated the housemaster Maurice Bicett at a game of cards that Fredrick's debt was cleared.
