Frederick of Hesse

Prince Frederick of Hesse (24 May 1771-24 February 1845) was a general of the Kingdom of Denmark who was also Governor of Norway from 1810 to 1813.

Biography[]

Frederick rose to the rank of Lieutenant General in 1789 through his royal connections, and he took part in the Dano-Swedish War of 1808-1809. In 1813, leading an army to assist the French Empire, he won a victory at the Battle of Sehested but became the leader of Danish occupation forces in France from 1815 to 1818 after the end of the Seventh Coalition. He held many major political positions.
