Frederick Steiwer

Frederick Steiwer (13 October 1883-3 February 1939) was a Republican US Senator from Oregon from 4 March 1927 to 31 January 1938, succeeding Robert N. Stanfield and preceding Alfred E. Reames.

Biography[]

Frederick Steiwer was born in Jefferson, Marion County, Oregon in 1883, and he became a lawyer in Portland in 1908. He served as Umatilla County deputy district attorney from 1909 to 1910, as district attorney from 1912 to 1916, as a US Army lieutenant during World War I, and in the US Senate from 1927 to 1938, opposing the New Deal. He resigned due to health problems and died in 1939 at the age of 55.
