Biography[]
Frederick was born in Gotha, Saxe-Wittenburg, Holy Roman Empire on 30 November 1310, the son of Frederick I of Meissen. He succeeded his father as Margrave of Meissen and Landgrave of Thuringia at the age of 13, and he married Mathilde of Bavaria, the daughter of Emperor Louis IV of Germany. His reign was full of arguments with nobles, leading to a rebellion in 1342. The House of Wettin's power was strengthened after the rebels were defeated in 1346, and he reigned until his death in 1349.
