Frederick Hale (7 October 1874 – 28 September 1963) was a US Senator from Maine (R) from 4 March 1917 to 3 January 1941, succeeding Charles Fletcher Johnson and preceding Owen Brewster.
Biography[]
Frederick Hale was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1874, and he became a lawyer in Portland, Maine in 1899. He served in the Maine House of Representatives from 1905 to 1906 and on the Republican National Committee from 1912 to 1918, and he would also serve in the US Senate from 1917 to 1941. He was a fierce opponent of the Ku Klux Klan, and he voted against Hugo Black's US Supreme Court nomination in 1937. He died in 1963.
