Biography[]

Early career[]

Frederick Newandyke was born in Los Angeles, California in 1962, and he eventually joined the LAPD as an undercover officer. His superior Dennis Holdaway schooled Newandyke in undercover work, and they became good friends, working in different cases with other officers such as Jodie McKlusky and Frankie Ferchetti, who also introduced him to rookie officer Marvin Nash. A fan of superheroes such as the Fantastic Four or the Silver Surfer, Newandyke lived alone in an apartment in Downtown Los Angeles.

In 1992, the Los Angeles Police Department received information that crime boss Joe Cabot was planning on robbing Karina's Wholesale Diamonds jewelry store when it was to receive a shipment of polished Israeli stones. Cabot planned to hire unfamiliar criminals for the job and give them all different color-coded aliases so they wouldn't be able to identify each other should they talk to the authorities. However, Newandyke was chosen to infiltrate the Cabot Gang and foil the heist from the inside. His undercover "legend" revolved around him being a petty thief and marijuana dealer who had stuck up a couple of locations in the past, and Cabot, his son Eddie and their accomplice in the heist Larry Dimmick brought him in after an informant, "Long Beach Mike", vouched for Newandyke in exchange for a reduced sentence. He fully solidified his credibility after telling a fake story about how he was nearly caught with a package of cannabis in a train station bathroom in 1986, though Cabot never fully trusted him. Along with the other robbers, Newandyke was given the nickname "Mr. Orange" and became acquainted with the heist crew, including Vic Vega, known as "Mr. Blonde", "Mr. Pink", "Mr. Brown", "Mr. Blue" and Dimmick, called "Mr. White", with whom he became the closest, developping a "student-master" relationship and getting friendly with him despite his job as a police officer. His role during the job was to guard the door and to not let anyone enter or exit the store.
