Freddy Hernández (died 1993) was a Mexican-American musician and a member of the norteño band Los Tigres del Norte. Born in Mocorito, Sinaloa, the brother of Hernán Hernández, Eduardo Hernández, Jorge Hernández, Raúl Hernández, and the cousin of Óscar Lara, he cofounded the band in 1965 and first played in Los Mochis and Mexicali before his family settled in San Jose, California in 1968. In 1974, the band became a cross-border hit after the release of "Contrabando y traición", a narcocorrido, in 1974. The band became known for its songs about heartbreak, narcos, and especially politics; their 2009 song La Granja, which used a chaotic farm as a metaphor for the instability in Mexico caused by the Mexican Drug War, the Vicente Fox administration, and corrupt politicians, was censored in Mexico. Freddy died of a heart attack in 1993.
The band authorized Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the left-wing President of Mexico from 2018 to 2024, to use their music, as Lopez Obrador was a longtime fan of their music, and the band was associated with leftist politics due to their lyrical content.
