Fred Upton

Fred Upton (born 23 April 1953) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-MI 4) from 3 January 1987 to 3 January 1993, succeeding Mark D. Siljander and preceding Dave Camp, and from MI 6 from 3 January 1993 to 3 January 2023, succeeding Milton Robert Carr.

Biography[]

Fred Upton was born in St. Joseph, Michigan in 1953, and he served as an aide to Congressman David Stockman from 1976 to 1980 before working in the Office of Management and Budget under Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1985 as Stockman served as OMB director. He was elected to the US House of Representatives in 1986, and he was a centrist member of the Republican Party, holding conservative social views and moderate economic views. On 13 January 2021, he was also one of only 10 Republicans to vote in favor of Trump's second impeachment, following the 2021 United States coup d'etat attempt. On 5 April 2022, he announced that he would not be seeking re-election; due to redistricting, he would have been forced into a Republican-on-Republican race for his seat.
