Fred Donolon

Fred Donolon (1826-) was the Mayor of Tombstone, Arizona during the 1880s. A Democrat, he occasionally came into conflict with Sheriff Clay Hollister, especially when, in September 1881, he defied Hollister's wishes to handle Frank Masters' stage robberies by himself; Donolon agreed to hire the bounty hunters Diamond and Howell to hunt down Masters for a $5,000 bounty. On 2 November 1881, he and J. Homer Radcliffe called on deputy sheriff Charlie Riggs to resign after he shot the cowboy Tully Brewster in self-defense, as Tully's father Sam Brewster threatened vengeance upon Tombstone if his son died, and the Brewsters brought a lot of business to Tombstone.
