
Franz Xaver Wolfgang von Orsini-Rosenberg (1726-1795) was the first Prince of Orsini-Rosenberg under the Holy Roman Empire.
Biography[]
Franz Xaver Wolfgang von Orsini-Rosenberg was born in 1726 to an old noble family, and Orsini-Rosenberg was of noble status in the Holy Roman Empire. He was one of the courtiers of King Joseph II of Austria at his palace in Vienna, Austria, and he was opposed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's idea of writing an opera in German instead of Italian; Orsini-Rosenberg and Giuseppe Bonno both agreed that German was not a language suitable for opera. However, King Joseph II chose to allow Mozart to write the opera in German, shocking many. Orsini-Rosenberg died in 1795 at the age of 69.
