Frankie Carbone (14 January 1941 – 18 July 1984) was an Italian gangster who was affiliated with the Lucchese crime family of the American Mafia. He was one of the many members of Paul Vario's crew to be whacked in the aftermath of the Lufthansa heist.
Biography[]
Frankie Carbone was born in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York City on 14 January 1941 to an Italian immigrant family, and he was expelled from middle school and high school for truancy and violent behavior. He was involved with street gangs as a youth, and he was introduced to the Colombo crime family by his uncles. Carbone became a heavy cocaine user, and he became an associate of the Lucchese crime family during the 1970s. Carbone befriended Jimmy Conway after Tommy DeVito introduced them to each other, and he became a member of Paul Cicero's crew. He was a particularly close, loyal, and trustworthy friend of DeVito, his brother-in-law Tony Rodriguez, and Conway, and he was responsible for most of the murders of Burke's witness elimination program of 1978-1979.
Death[]

Carbone after being killed
On 18 July 1984, Carbone and his girlfriend Joanna Lombardo were murdered by a Lucchese hit squad a week after robbing a Lucchese drug trafficker of thousands of dollars in cocaine and cash earmarked for the organization. Another reason for the murder was Carbone's purchase of an expensive coat for his wife, despite Conway's orders avoiding buying expensive products. Carbone's body was found hanging in a meat freezing truck, and it took two days for the doctors to thaw him out for an autopsy.
